Apollo Academy Launches E.S.T.E.A.M. Learning Labs Summer Camps

Apollo Academy is now partnering with E.S.T.E.A.M. Learning Labs to bring STEAM-based camps to Tampa this summer. E.S.T.E.A.M. stands for entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering, art and movement. We officially launched our partnership in January 2024 with a free family fun event featuring Legos and STEAM-based activities. This sold-out event serving over 200 Lego enthusiasts reinforced the need for STEAM-based learning in the Tampa Bay.

For summer 2024, all camps will be located at Apollo Academy (1309 W Swann Ave Tampa, FL 33606). Camps are one or two weeks each and run 9am-4pm with the option for half days and extended stay. Check out the full ESTEAM Camp Schedule. Use code EBTA15 for 15% off in March!

Discovery Camps (Ages 4-8)

Discovery courses are perfect for our youngest Heroes ages 5-8. Come join us for a time of Discovery as we explore Science & Nature, Technology, Engineering, Art, Music, Movement, & More! Each day is filled with fun activities (“Labs”) and STEAM-focused projects. Students will engage in interesting experiments, crafts, and games that engage their curiosity and critical thinking skills. Discovery is a great opportunity to introduce students to a variety of programs that kickstart their love for learning and help them find their unique passions. Students will be learning alongside their friends, all while having a blast.

NATURE ADVENTURES

Young nature lovers will enjoy the great outdoors as we explore the wonders of nature! This camp is infused with play, art, movement, and social interaction as they take mini-hikes and learn to identify various trees, plants, and animals during camp.

PIRATES AT SEA

From landlubber to swashbuckler, it’s the pirate’s life! Cast off into the seven seas as learners work together to navigate its treacherous depths, engaging in STEAM-focused experiments and engaging group discussions. Each day will include exciting stories that engage their curiosity and critical thinking skills. Then, our merry bunch works with the rest of their crew to accomplish challenging tasks like catapults, tying knots, and creating hidden treasure maps!

GAMES, GAMES, GAMES

Young game enthusiasts will enjoy the variety of gameplay and friends they will make!! From outdoor tug-a-war to indoor Chess, students will engage in STEAM-focused activities and engaging projects. Each day will include exciting games that engage their curiosity and critical thinking skills. Campers will spend the week playing minute-to-win games while creating lasting friendships.

SUPERHEROES

Calling all superheroes! You are invited to a week full of strength, power, and intelligence training. Test your superhero knowledge as you learn the stories behind your favorite heroes, design your superhero costumes, and write your hero comics. You won’t want to miss out on an exciting obstacle course, creating your invention, and drinking a Super Soldier Serum.

LEGO® FUNGINEERING

Young LEGO® lovers will enjoy a week full of building, challenges, programming, and more. It's time to get creative and show off your masterpieces. This week, we will build robots, spin art, and LEGO® Masterpieces, and more..

IN THE WILD (ANIMALS)

Monkeys, tigers, and bears, oh my! From the very small to the very tall, many marvelous mammal students will engage in STEAM-focused activities and engaging projects to learn about animals. How do these animals differ from reptiles, amphibians, and birds? Find out why it's fantastic to be furry and fabulous to be warm-blooded!

OCEAN EXPLORATION

Join us for a fun and unique learning environment for exploring the ocean and its remarkable inhabitants. Students will engage in STEAM-focused activities and engaging projects while learning about diverse fresh and saltwater species, different ecosystems, animal adaptations, marine biology, and more.

ALL ABOUT SPACE

Young explorers will enjoy learning about our solar system and beyond! Bottle Rockets, space dough, and marble planets are just a few of the fun activities we will experience this week! If outer space, the moon, and the stars interest you. You will NOT want to miss out on this week of exploration.

AROUND THE WORLD

Come journey around the world! This fun-filled camp starts on one side of the globe and explores several continents before ending. Students will engage in STEAM-focused activities and engaging projects as they journey down famous rivers, visit famous landmarks, and explore the ice-covered mountain ranges. Your camper will love learning about the cultures and people worldwide.

Entrepreneurship
Board Game Creators

Playing board games is not just an engaging way to make friends, learn problem-solving skills, and have fun. Board games are also an up-and-coming industry with many fanatics. In this course, we not only teach our students about art, gameplay, and design, but we also help them create their own board game, giving them entrepreneurial skills! Throughout the course, students will play different types of board games and then work in teams to design a Board Game. They will then pitch that board game to each other, hoping that their game will be chosen to receive the ultimate Players’ Choice Award!

Science

Forensic Science

This interactive and project-oriented forensics course is designed to engage students in this truly fascinating area of science! In the Forensics Lab, students will learn investigative techniques and use chemistry, biology, and physics throughout the course to solve mysteries. They’ll learn how forensic experts use science to discover hidden clues left behind at crime scenes and how investigators solve difficult cases.

Jr. Detectives will become immersed in the roles of crime scene investigators as they work together to collect and analyze evidence needed to solve the mystery!

The Case of the Missing Mascot: Who took the school mascot? Students must try to discover the culprit before the Big Game! Activities include fingerprint and bite mark analysis, fiber flame test - and DNA analysis!

Case Of The Kidnapped Cookies: The beloved Otis Spunkmeyer is kidnapped and the students have to figure out which of their staff members took their warm chewy cookies. The ransom note is written in Spanish, cut from different local newspapers and appears to have some sort of red stain on it. There is also some white powder and soil left near the note and, for the final nail in the coffin, students will determine whose DNA is on the envelope the note was found in.

Movie Science

Embark on an exciting journey to discover the science hidden in movies! In this interactive and engaging course, we explore the fascinating world of science through the lens of popular films. Through discussions, hands-on experiments, and creative activities, students will develop critical thinking skills while having a blast. Examine the scientific accuracy of movie scenes. Are they real or just Hollywood magic? Students will leave with a deeper appreciation for the wonders of science and how it shapes the world of cinema. Join us for a movie-filled adventure where science and imagination collide!

LEGO® Maker: Amazing Machines

This unit will give your students an understanding of forces and motion as they plan and conduct investigations about the cause and effect of push and pull forces.

These seven lessons will introduce students to the process of asking and answering questions, data analysis, and how to present their ideas. They'll work toward determining whether design solutions work as they were intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull.

LEGO® Maker: Fun and Games

This course will develop your students' understanding of forces and motion as they engage in and conduct investigations about the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces. They'll investigate the patterns in an object's motion, developing and sharpening their ability to predict future motion. Along the way, they'll develop their collaborative conversation skills as they effectively engage in a range of discussions.

LEGO® Movie Making

Get ready to transform those colorful bricks into epic, stop-motion adventures! In this creative camp, Students will work in pairs to create a short story, draw it out, build it with LEGO® bricks, and bring it to life on film. Go from LEGO® enthusiast to movie director! In each session, students will create their own movie complete with sound effects and music. From brainstorming ideas, developing plots, to designing and building LEGO® sets, students will have the opportunity to create their very own cinematic masterpiece.

U-Tubers: Gamers Unite

This engaging course is designed for students who have a passion for gaming and want to learn how to create their own video content. Any up-and-coming You-Tuber will love this crash course in content creation!

Students will spend their time exploring various aspects of video game content creation, including gameplay recording, video editing, narration, and live streaming. Once the footage has been captured, students will work together to edit and deliver the footage.

U-Tubers: Makers Unite

This engaging course is designed for students who have a passion for creating and want to learn how to produce their own video content. Any up-and-coming You-Tuber will love this crash course in content creation!

Students will spend their time exploring various aspects of content creation, including creating short form content, lifestyle shows, product reviews, current events and more! Once the footage has been captured, students will work together to edit and deliver the footage.

Lights, Camera, Action

Welcome to a hands-on, fast-paced program that allows students to work directly with professionals in the field of industrial film and video production. Students produce, direct, light, shoot, and edit like experts as they create content for that week’s camp.

Students will start with the pre-production process: outlining ideas, creating a resources list, and crafting stories and objectives. Then they will dive straight into creating content and learning the post-production process. Students will collaborate on ways to market and promote their content and build an engaging audience.

Advanced LEGO Movie Making

Stop Motion Animation has been around since the late 1800s. In this course, students will make movies come to life, one frame at a time. This course is for students to study traditional stop motion animation using art, paper cut-outs, clay, action figures, or any other miscellaneous objects. Much like our LEGO® Movie Making course, we will create movie magic by planning our 3-act story, crafting our materials, building sets, and recording audio and video. Group projects are encouraged and individual creations are welcomed.

 

Engineering

LEGO® Robotics: Battle Bots

Get ready to build, program, and battle at LEGO® Battle Bots! This exhilarating course is perfect for young engineers and LEGO® enthusiasts eager to dive into the world of robotics and competition. In this specialized camp, students will work in teams to design and build motorized battle robots that operate mechanical lifts, drills, ramps, and more. Through a series of practice battles and time reconfiguring their robots, students will design robots capable of overcoming others. the robots will eventually battle “to the death,” and the designers of the “last robot standing” for each round will be the winners.

LEGO® Robotics: Smart Moves

In this immersive and hands-on course, students will step into the future of transportation, learning how to build and program autonomous LEGO® robots that can navigate through a variety of challenges. This course is designed for  advancing engineers eager to explore the intersection of robotics and transportation while deepening their understanding of robotics and coding. Students will spend time building different vehicles (Bumper cars, ATVs, Drag race cars, and others) and testing them on custom tracks. Students will discover how these systems are transforming the way we move in the 21st century.

 

Art

Cosplay Creations

This course is perfect for all aspiring cosplayers and craft enthusiasts. Our course offers an exciting journey into the art of cosplay. This hands-on course will encourage creativity and help bring your student’s favorite character to life. They will learn costume design, special effects makeup skills, and how to create props.

Students will utilize costumes, props, and makeup to bring their creative vision to life. Guided through alteration and design processes, they'll curate their desired outcomes.

The culmination includes a photo shoot where students showcase their creations.

Comic Book Creation

Welcome to a course where your imagination leaps off the page! This course is your gateway to the amazing universe of comic book creation. Perfect for new artists, creative storytellers, and fans of all things comics! Join our talented team of graphic artists and comic book gurus to create your very own heroes and stories! In this course, students will explore the history and lore of traditional comic books. They will be guided on creating their heroes and telling their unique stories. This program will combine writing and drawing and will challenge the students to share their vision through words and images.

Intro to Art and Design

Dive into the world of art in this course that will provide students with an exciting and creative environment to focus on what inspires them the most. Intro to Art and Design provides the perfect canvas for kids who love to dream, draw, and discover.

Students will be learning the fundamental building blocks for art and design, and they will be provided with an encouraging space to let their creativity flow. We want to motivate our young creatives to set new paths for greater possibilities by building personal portfolios to take home at the end of the week.

Digital Art

Calling All Digital Artists: This course is designed to support student artists working with computerized art tools. Our camp provides a comfortable studio setting for studies in digital creativity, technical research, and constructive feedback. All new and experienced artists are welcome to work independently, with others, or with their Guide. As a collaborative group, we will provide criticism and guidance to overcome creative challenges. Students will develop skills using the latest digital tools and software. They will explore different styles of digital art such as cartooning, anime, and realism.

Acting and Improv

Allow your imagination to take center stage! Through a variety of games, exercises, and scene work, participants will explore the fundamentals of acting and the thrilling world of improvisation. The course is great for both kids with goals as an actor, as well those who are simply curious about the craft. Students will overcome fears, develop self confidence, and learn to express themselves. They will learn how to pay attention in the moment while adapting their character to the changing environment. Students will be able to perform a monologue or scene at the completion of the course.

Theatre Arts: Musical Performance

It’s time to take the stage! This two-week course is designed for students with a passion for performance and a desire to express themselves creatively. Students will gain experience in theatre arts productions (musical & non-musical), play/poem reading, writing workshops, set design, and more. The highlight of the course will be preparing for a grand musical performance! Students will have the chance to shine on stage in a musical that will showcase all the skills they have learned. Students of all skills and experience are welcome to take part in this theatrical journey.

Math (Coding)

Drones and Robots: Spy Bots

Young minds eager to dive into the realm of robotics and aerial technology will love this merged course. Over the course, students will embark on a thrilling journey of learning, creativity, and innovation. This course will include engineering, coding, and flight practice to bolster students’ skills regarding these modern technologies.

What do covert operations, reconnaissance missions, and cybersecurity have in common? Spy Bots. This themed course takes robots and drones to the next level by integrating them with the latest Spy Bot technology. Become the secret agent of tomorrow!

Drones and Robots: Space

Young minds eager to dive into the realm of robotics and aerial technology will love this merged course. Over the course, students will embark on a thrilling journey of learning, creativity, and innovation. This course will include engineering, coding, and flight practice to bolster students’ skills regarding these modern technologies.

Why limit our technology and curiosity to the Earth we live on? This course will include simulated drone-space missions and astro-engineering challenges. Join us in our fascination with the cosmos and the technology that explores it.

Drones and Robots: Green City
