Apollo Academy is hosting a virtual series focused on its learning design

Mar 1, 2022
Apollo Way, Events

While our physical studio is undergoing renovation to prepare for our August 2022 opening, we are going virtual with a new series! We are excited to connect with parents online later this month as we launch a virtual series focused on the nuts and bolts of our learning design. We will host three sessions each with a different focus on our curriculum. The purpose of our virtual series is to dive deeper into how our environment, schedule and learning design create a space that welcomes curiosity, meets learners where they are academically and fuels a growth-mindset. These sessions are designed to allow accepted families to dive deeper as well as interested families to understand the framework better. Apollo Academy Virtual Series: Learning Design

1. Project-based learning: Quests

March 22nd 7:45pm-8:15pm

One of the ways we set ourselves apart from traditional school is our project-based learning. Science, civilization, critical & strategic thinking and entrepreneurship are learned by learners doing. We will explore the themes, activities and challenges that are in the queue for our inaugural year during this session. Prerequisite: It will be incredibly helpful to have read Courage to Grow by Laura Sandefer prior to joining this webinar. To register, click here.

2. Core Skills

March 30th 1:00-1:30pm

We will dive into how we manage a multi-age, individualized core skills where learners can truly self-pace. By combining Montessori, online programs and multi-sensory tools, we have a robust platform that provides multiple ways for a learner to understand a concept. We also discuss how we require mastery before moving on which eliminates the need for weekly tests and quizzes. Prerequisite: It will be incredibly helpful to have read Courage to Grow by Laura Sandefer prior to joining this webinar. To register, click here.

3. Build the Tribe: The first five weeks

April 6th 7:45-8:15pm

So you apply, get invited to join, drop your learner off on the first day of school, then what? We will explore what the first five weeks will look like at our studio and how we integrate our systems and processes to allow our learners to explore at-will and embrace our learner-driven environment. From communication to tracking progress, we cover it all in this session. Prerequisite: It will be incredibly helpful to have read Courage to Grow by Laura Sandefer prior to joining this webinar.
