As a newer Apollo Academy family, we have learned so much over the past six months. When we first enrolled our children, we were so excited about the idea of self-directed learning and the unique approach that Acton Academy takes to education. We had no idea just how transformative the experience would be for our entire family.
Choosing the right school for your child can be a daunting task. It's not just about finding a place that teaches them the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic, but one that instills in them a love of learning and a sense of purpose. Read along to see how our family knew Apollo Academy was right for us.
Taking Ownership of their Learning
It’s a place where children are encouraged to be independent thinkers and take ownership of their learning. This was incredibly important to us as parents because we wanted our children to be self-motivated and engaged in their education. The students are in charge of their own learning, which means they set their own goals, create their own schedules, and have the freedom to explore topics that interest them. This approach to education not only teaches them responsibility but also prepares them for the real world.
Family First Approach
Apollo Academy believes in a family-first approach to education. They prioritize the needs and desires of families above all else, and strive to create an environment that fosters a strong sense of community and support. We are the ones who know our children best, and are the ones who will ultimately be responsible for our children's success in life. By working closely with its families, Apollo ensures that they are providing the best possible education and support for each child, tailored to their individual needs and goals.
Learning Life Lessons
While academic learning is essential, what sets Apollo apart is the emphasis on life lessons. Every day, our children are learning how to become self-directed, responsible, and accountable individuals. The Acton philosophy emphasizes developing a growth mindset in learners. This is essential because it is not just about the grades or scores that my learners achieve. The goal is for the learners to become independent and self-motivated individuals who take responsibility for their own learning.
“Learning to do and Learning to be simply outweighs just learning to know!”
-Laura Sandefer, Co-Founder Acton Academy
Failure is not an endpoint
Failure is part of the journey to success at Apollo Academy. Failure is seen as an opportunity to learn, grow and improve. Our learners now understand that failure is not something to be ashamed of but is instead a necessary step in their growth. They are encouraged to explore, try new things, and take risks. This hands-on approach helps them develop a sense of self-awareness, learn how to work well with others, and develop the skills they need to succeed in the real world.
Apollo is growing and adapting
Apollo Academy is also constantly growing and adapting to meet the needs of its students. From its focus on self-directed learning to its commitment to technology and real-world experiences, the Academy truly offers a unique and innovative education. We are very grateful for the opportunities it has provided our children and look forward to seeing how the school continues to evolve and thrive in the years to come.
A place for all learners
When we discovered Apollo Academy, we were so thrilled to find a school where all of our children could attend. One of the things that sets Apollo apart from other schools is that it caters to all ages. It's not just a school for elementary school students, it's a place where children of all ages can learn and grow. This was particularly important for us as we have several children, each with different ages and learning needs.
Acton Academy has been a blessing for our family. It’s a place where all of our children can attend and receive a high-quality education. The multi-age classroom structure, unique curriculum, and supportive community have created an environment where our learners can thrive and develop the necessary skills for future success. If you are a parent searching for a school that emphasizes independence, real-world skills, and puts family first…Apollo Academy could be right for your family too!
